HELP. I have a Nexus 6 that is encrypted and I use a PIN to unlock it. My phone used to require a PIN to even boot then a "security update" happened and that went away but I found an option in the settings to re-enable it. Now, after this latest update, that feature has gone again and I can't find the place to turn it back on. How do I fix this?? I already have the app Locker on my device so that it will wipe after a set number of failed attempts, no clue why this feature isn't already baked into Android, but I want the boot protection back as well. Jason Howell or Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ do you know how to fix this?

1) Settings > Security > Screen lock > put in current pattern > Select Pattern > Note that "Require pattern to start device" is checked

2) Make no changes and back out to Settings (or press home and re-open Settings)

3) Go to Accessibility

4) Turn on any Accessibility Service (I turned on Pushbullet but it doesn't seem to matter what service you do)

5) Follow step 1 until you see that "Require pattern to start device" is unchecked.

Activating accessibility turns off the feature (though it can be re-activated manually just after).

In particular, when activating Lastpass auto-fill feature, it will require accessibility activation and disable the on boot password!

The (stupid) reasoning being that Accessibility feature cannot be active pre-boot (when you would enter the password) so it is just disabled (even if the Accessibility feature you need is not aimed to help entering pre-boot password). ?
