G+_Keith Wilson
Does anyone in the AAA community know what's going on with Jon Eric 's Google Now or how to fix it? Originally shared by Jon Porobil (Jon Eric) Hey folks! I've got a minor problem on my phone and I was hoping someone with some experience on Android might be able to help me diagnose it. It's basically the same problem as the original post in this thread: http://www.computerforum.com/222662-google-now.html But of course the other users either misinterpreted the problem or didn't know what to advice. In short: I've got the Google Now widget on my home screen, but when I try to tap anywhere on the widget to launch the application with the search and my cards, it fails to launch the app. It does make my phone vibrate a tiny bit, but it doesn't launch the application. The second tap after that does nothing at all. Has anyone seen anything like this before? It's getting annoying. http://www.computerforum.com/222662-google-now.html
G+_Jonathan Saad
What happens when you hold down the home button and try clicking on Google now?
G+_Jon Porobil (Jon Eric)
Thanks for the reshare, Keith. Pertinent info: The phone is an HTC One XL, it is rooted and running a custom ROM (ViperXL), the Android version is 4.1.1. Jonathan Saad, I've customized long-press on Home as a shortcut to voice search, so there's no icon to click after holding down on Home.
G+_Daniel Kelly
Try clearing the app data. Uninstalling and reinstalling updates and go into the app menu to ensure the cards are switched on.
G+_Wade Shields
Might sound silly, but have you removed the widget & then added it back? That's the only thing I can think of to fix a broken widget. Try the forums where you got your ROM. They might be of more help.
G+_Jon Porobil (Jon Eric)
Daniel Kelly, trying it now. Wade Shields, I have tried removing the widget and adding it back, a few times, actually. the first time it seemed to work, but the problem was back later that day. This most recent time I tried that fix, it had no effect. Looks like the first time it happened was a coincidence, then.
G+_Jonathan Saad
What about adding a Google search widget, does that take you to Google now? You might jus need to fix permissions in recovery

G+_Jon Porobil (Jon Eric)
Someone over on the original thread suggested removing any other app I have associated with the same shortcut as Google Now (in this case, it was Cyberon, a voice controller that I've never used anyway, even though it came with my ROM). So I removed the Google Now widget, uninstalled Cyberon, and then re-added the widget. It now displays more cards more regularly (I used to get only one or two at a time, but it's been displaying at least three ever since I did this), and the weird failing-to-launch error hasn't happened since then. The issue was intermittent before, so I'm hesitant to call this resolved, but I'll let you know if it comes back.
