G+_Stede Bonnett
For Windows users following the Perl module I recommend you try out Notepad++ It offers automatic syntax highlighting for dozens of programming languages (see the language menu) and makes finding things like a missing " or ; much easier. You can also have multiple files open in tabs and if you close the program it will "remember" what files you had open and they will be there next time it starts. Just save your file with the correct extension and everything will work as expected. It also adds itself to the context menu so it is easy to right-click and open any text file in Notepad++ that you might want to edit. It can also handle different character encodings and line endings for working with files across platforms. http://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/
G+_Joe C. Hecht
Notepad++ Rocks! I use it to code under many languages, and over the network to edit many a file on many a OS. You simply cannot go wrong with Notepad++, and it is my de facto text editor of choice.
G+_Nate Follmer
What he said ^^ I do all my work in Notepad++ now. Lightweight, but has a TON of features.
G+_Irene Smith
I've been using it for years now. I like the syntax highlighting.
