G+_Gilles Labelle
I got my brand new nexus 4 yesterday from Google, and I've been loving it so far. But I was wondering if there is an advantage to rooting it and putting cyanogen mod on it. I've rooted and romed my previous android devices because I wanted the highest chance of getting the latest android updates, but with my nexus that isn't an issue anymore. Any thoughts/opinions? G+_Thomas Piraino
Seeing as you're now using Android as intended and updated by Google, why bother? I say stay stock!
G+_Jonathan Scott
That was my thought process too. But I thought that I would tap into the grand collective knowledge of the AAA community to make sure that I wasn't missing anything. Thanks Thomas Piraino :-)

G+_william reynolds
Jonathan Scott Once Google releases the SDK for the Chromecast Cyanogenmod will be able to release the build they have with Chromecast support baked in. So that you can stream any app you have to the chromecast. Not just the ones that support casting. So there is an advantage there if you have a Chromecast
G+_TJ Evans
Stock is great. Rooted is better. CM + ChromeCast is intriguing ...
G+_Jonathan Scott
william reynolds I don't have a Chrome cast. So for me that isn't a lot of benefit, though extremely cool. Maybe I'll go with the middle ground of rooting but not roming, so that I can use apps like titanium backup.
G+_L I
CM + a modified Franco Kernel + a USB Y cable let's you plug in thumb drives. Also it gives you a lot more options with lock screen sliders and the virtual buttons. PA is also interesting letting you change the DPI but ultimately CM is always better IMO. G+_Andrew Turbott
Jonathan Scott that's what I've done... At least until there is a CyanogenMod version of 4.3... Also chromecast is not available in New Zealand for the foreseeable future. Boo!
G+_Lucas Nichols
You can root and still run the stock os. There are so many things you can do with a rooted phone that running a custom rom is kinda not the main reason Imo. I can think of several reasons to root even if u still want to stay stock. G+_Santos Cardona
Stock Netflix, Hulu and Google Movies & TV do not always work rooted.
