G+_Jason Perry
Anyone here with recommendations on a Zigbee radio other than the Xbee? Furthest distance the signal would have to travel is 25ft and up or down a floor, more realistically 10ft since it is a mesh network.
G+_Toby Robb
You could try 433 or 315mhz modules and the radio head library for a sub $5 link, Or nrf24l modules. The xbees are really robust but about $50 for the link.
G+_Toby Robb
Does it specifically have to be ZigBee??
G+_Jason Perry
Toby RobbI want it to be seperate from other networks for security reasons. It also needs to be anonymous from my family so they wont cause problems with it and it wont cause confusion with them. I also want a known and open standard to increase the chance of compatibility with devices in the future.
G+_Toby Robb
K, xbee it would probably have to be.
G+_Jason Perry
That sucks. I was hoping that there would be some cheaper options.
G+_Toby Robb
I have used 433 and 315 MHz tx/Rx combos before. They are secure in the sense you can send a character that only the receiver will respond to. They are $2.
G+_Jason Perry
Price is right and the form factor also fits what I am after. I think I may start with something like that and build with the thought in mind that I may switch radios down the road. I would rather. buying 20 cheap radios that will work for my purpose makes more sense than buying 1 radio that goes above and beyond.
