A different way of looking at the Android Distribution Chart

So I promised to go into a little more detail about the Android distribution chart, so here it is, if your interested.

At the same point for all the other Android releases Lollipop at 3.3% was being adopted at the fastest rate. ICS was at 2.9%, Jelly Bean was at 2.7%, and Kit Kat was at 2.5%. It basically held true for this month as lollipop's 5.8% outpaced both ICS (4.9%) and Kit Kat (5.3%), however Jelly Bean amazingly jumped to 6.7% in the same time period which happens to coincide with end of November 2012, and that is actually great news for Lollipop because ...Samsung.

Two things happened in the months prior to November 2012. In August 2012 the very popular Galaxy S3 started to receive its Jelly Bean update with Sprint being the first US carrier to get it in October of that year. The very popular Galaxy Note 2 was also released in August 2012 and sold 5 million units in its first 2 months. Fast forward to today and we are at the point where the flagship phones are being released, the Galaxy S6 looks like it well sell in huge amounts and lollipop updates are finally rolling out to older phones. We also have more mid range phones launching with lollipop so I expect to see a huge jump in the chart over the next 2 months. I would also like to point out that the percentage each Android software version with the exception of kit kat 4.4.4 (it went up 0.5% which is inevitable as people are always buying phones, but the positive is they are buying a higher rate of Kit Kat phones) and lollipop went down. So yes 4 months later Jason Howell  its not as high as you would like it but in reality we are doing better than before. I also believe that Google is now favouring the late year release of the new Android version to take advantage of the fact that by the time the bugs are worked out the flagship phones are launching and as such adoption is pushed.
