G+_Erik Flees
N00b question again (Since you have all been so helpful already). If I root my phone, can I still get the Google official apps, or do I lose those?
G+_Joseph Cappellino
Just rooting, you won't lose them. If you ROM it, then you'll have to flash the GApps package. They can be downloaded here: http://goo.im.
G+_Dan Silvia
That was what I was hoping! It wouldn't matter which ROM I put on it then?
G+_Joseph Cappellino
Nope. But make sure you grab the right version of GApps.
G+_Robert Marshall
Keep in mind that Google TV/Movies that you purchase/rent may not work. At least, they didn't on my older device after I rooted it. Back during some special sale they had movies for 25 cents. I went ahead and burned a quarter only to get a message that I couldn't watch the movie because my phone was rooted.
G+_Robert Marshall
I just downloaded a movie on Google Play and, sure enough, when I tried playing it on my rooted phone, I got an error: "There was a problem while playing [31]" So, basically, don't expect to play movies from Google Play if you root. G+_Paul Darr
And I was just able to play a movie on my phone with CyanogenMod but I have also had that error out before. It's very hit or miss depending on ROM's.
G+_Robert Marshall
Interesting. I've got the stock ROM, but rooted.
G+_Dan Silvia
Thanks for the info guys! Where can I find the stock rom?
G+_Robert Marshall
When I said stock I meant what came on the phone. There are some debloated and AOSP type ROMs over in the XDA Forums. Just make sure to read the differing descriptions before flashing one. Also make sure to do a Backup before doing so!
