G+_Joshua Gaede
Is there any way to import their contact picture. I might be missing a setting
G+_Joseph Cappellino
It should be automatic.

G+_Joshua Gaede
Joseph Cappellino it isn't pulling them. Another reason that I don't use hangouts is being overseas I can't use Google voice. Unless I'm doing an actual hangout I don't really use it. I would like to though
G+_Joseph Cappellino
Joshua Gaede - Actually, having Google Voice doesn't help with SMS and Hangouts as they're not integrated yet. So, I have to use the Google Voice app to send an SMS. This might get fixed in CyanogenMod with Voice+... Hopefully.

G+_Paul Croulet
I use handcent. I like it because it allows me to customize notification sounds. I have a Google Voice number that I use too. So I use the voice app to initiate new messages and then I use handcent for all received text messages.

G+_Shawn P. Conroy (Shawn)
There is still no reason not to use Hangouts for SMS. Though I like the simplicity of the stock Messaging app, but that doesn't ship with all or most phones. Handcent has many options, but I find it is cumbersome to use most of the time. G+_Paul Croulet
At least for me, much like the Google Voice app, until they add features to it to allow for choosing notification tones for individual contacts like I can with handcent... I probably will not use it.
G+_Joshua Gaede
I figured out something that is annoying as hell. So the only contacts that display the contact pictures are ones that are saved on my device itself. For the life of me I don't know how to save the contacts I already have saved as Google contacts to my device.

G+_Shawn P. Conroy (Shawn)
George Fromtulsa I think you misread Joshua's comment. Because his experience directly contradicts your argument that Google is forcing you to use their services. While I'm aware of this arguments and parts of it are certainly true, the fact is people asked for SMS and Google gave it. Joshua Gaede I have to say I have not had that problem. All of my contacts pictures on Hangouts come seemlessly from Google+ or whatever I've set it to in Google Contacts. If you have set it manually on your phone it may override the other ones. Sorry it's not working as easily for you.
G+_Joshua Gaede
It's because I pulled the pictures from Facebook syncing. Oh well
G+_George Fromtulsa
Shawn P. Conroy Nope, your phone's contacts photos can be as blank as most of mine are because my contacts don't have Google profiles. But if Google enables easy manual insertion of photos into my contacts list, I'd be interested in learning how. As a purely "academic" exercise because I'm not going to email everyone in my list and ask for a photo I can insert in my phone dialer.
G+_Shawn P. Conroy (Shawn)
Yes, one of my contacts don't have a profile photo on their Google+ account so I just uploaded on. There are two ways to set a photos. Download one, or have one from your photo library of parties & birthdays. (Download form the Faecbook app, for example, or on your computer.) When editing the contact on your phone you can set the photo. So long as the contact is saved to your Google account it should update it there (meaning it will be visible in all future phones you load your profile on). On Android:Just edit their profile on your phone, click their image (or lack of image) and select the photo you want to use. From Web:You can also do this from your home computer. Just go to google.com/contacts and open up their profile and add the photo. I've done this for my most often contacted people. In general Facebook does not let you take the data out of Facebook and actually apply it to your phone.
G+_George Fromtulsa
Thanks, Shawn P. Conroy That's useful. Of course, I don't have FB, but that's a different issue.---
