G+_gregg nichols
I'm having a weird problem with my phone. For some reason, it won't lock! My security settings are set up for a swipe to unlock, but when I tap my power button to wake up my phone, it goes straight to the home screen. I'd say it's doing this 90% of the time. The rest of the time it correctly asks me to swipe. What is doing this? edit This is on a Nexus 6 running stock 5.1.
G+_Kenny “KitkatRai” Rouss
Check your smart lock settings, for any of them being on, also how long are you waiting before pressing the unlock button? While it's probably not that, good to ask anyway
G+_Matt Maher
Yeah, I'm waiting a good long time to properly test it. Like up to a minute. And when using the swipe unlock method, it seems that smart lock is disabled.
G+_Kenny “KitkatRai” Rouss
Go into your settings and check how long your phone has it to automatically lock
G+_Matt Maher
I don't see that setting.
G+_Rahul Mohandas
That setting should be under display
G+_Matt Maher
Are you talking about the "Sleep" setting? I don't believe that's related to the lock mechanism. That's just how much time after activity is detected that the screen turns off. Besides, I can set it to as few as 15 seconds and that doesn't change anything, just how long the screen stays on. G+_Rahul Mohandas
Yeah you are right my bad. Under the type of lock (swipe) you should see a setting for how long to wait until locking. If that does not show up I would reboot the phone and see of that fixes it. There could be an app that is suppressing that.
G+_Matt Maher
I rebooted and the phone locks for now, but that setting still isn't there. I don't know what app might be doing that...
G+_Rahul Mohandas
I would download device assist and see if the people at google know? You could also try running in recovery mode and see if that shows up
G+_Kenny “KitkatRai” Rouss
Go to Settings Security "Automatically lock" check that And check there also for your Smart Lock settings
G+_Matt Maher
Kenny: that setting is not there. And as I've said already, the smart lock settings do not apply to the swipe setting. Rahul: I'm talking to Google now. Good idea.
G+_Kenny “KitkatRai” Rouss
Matt Maher If you have a Nexus 6 then IT IS ON THERE, which is why I'm telling you about it, the Nexus 6 runs stock, I have a Moto G GPE which runs stock, I've seen people USING the N6 and going into that setting, which means unless you don't have the Nexus 6 / stock, you have it, you just have not found it
G+_Matt Maher
I know it's running stock, and it's not there, which is more important, diagnostically, than insisting that I should be seeing something that's not there.
G+_Kenny “KitkatRai” Rouss
I'm 99.99999% sure that either you aren't running stock or you're missing it then, those are pretty much the ONLY option
G+_Matt Maher
And you're seeing that when it's set to Swipe on your phone?
G+_Matt Maher
I see the automatically lock option on Pattern and PIN, but not on Swipe. Besides, that isn't my problem. I had a pattern unlock set up from a couple days ago until this morning, and this problem has been happening for at least a week. I'm assuming there's some app on my phone that's preventing the phone from locking when it goes to sleep, but Google Device Support didn't have any tips for how to figure out which one it is. It's possible that it's my launcher (Action Launcher 3).
G+_Rahul Mohandas
Just to double check when you say notnlocking what do you mean? When you press the power button to turn on your screen you are already in the home screen?
G+_Matt Maher
Yes, that's what's happening.
G+_Rahul Mohandas
Google give you any better idea what might be wrong? Just to test try using pin or pattern and see if the setting appears
G+_Matt Maher
The setting does appear for PIN and Pattern. I guess they feel that Swipe isn't really any sort of security so they don't bother with the timeout settings because it's not that much of an inconvenience. But that setting isn't the issue. Like I said, I had a pattern set up for a few days in the middle of the week that I've been having this problem, and the phone still wasn't locking. Restarting the phone fixes the issue, but it always comes back. I assume that one of my apps is doing this, but I have no idea how to tell which one. Maybe my launcher, Action Launcher 3?
