G+_Ronald Cole Jr
Now that Google has its first phone ever, will they be making premium Google apps for the Pixel as they do for iOS?

G+_Luis Padilla
Jared Gauthier I've read articles that the apps that Google makes for Android they also make for iOS but 10x better.
G+_Jared Gauthier
Luis Padilla That's all preference. I've use some of the iOS Google apps and they aren't as good because the integration is poor.

G+_Barry Smith
More to the point what will happen to android? Will google start focusing on a new iteration or will the open sauce still get the tlc?. I fear now that they are baking in assistant and the rest, this will be google's own take and where will it lead?
G+_Pradyumn Vij
Barry Smith Google Assistant is Google Now re-branded so it makes sense across different hardware platforms and within different apps (Allo). I'm guessing Google will replace Google Now with Assistant on throughout Android otherwise they will have great difficulty marketing and selling Google Home to consumers and 3rd party companies. Android is not open source, AOSP is open source. This is the reason you will find many desktop boxes and other small "smart" boxes and TVs running AOSP as an operating system. Another example where Google does this is Chrome. Chrome is close source however Chromium is open sourced. The close source and open source versions are very similar and both originate from the same company however AOSP doesn't have immediate access to the Play store. If you're buying Android phones from 3rd party hardware vendors, they are paying Google to use Android and all the features in there. If you listen to the keynote all the apps that they were touting are just pre-installed on the Pixel, meaning you can just install it yourself. The only things that are Pixel specific at the moment seem to be DayDream, Assistant running through all native apps to begin with and unlimited photo, video and app storage to allow offloading.
