G+_Gene Chiu
Would I be able to send SMS messages from my PC?
G+_Tom Gehrke
Gene Chiu I wouldn't think so based on this particular rumor. Just for the sake of discussion, what cell provider would your PC use? You'd either have to have a way to pair your mobile device to your PC so it could proxy the request or there'd have to be some Google Voice integration. Of course, that would require a GV account and considering you can already do SMS from your PC via GV...
G+_Leif
I'm always surprised what a big deal this seems to be for people in the US. Here in Germany MMS was already dead once it was introduced and I've received the last SMS, which was written by a living person, one or two years ago. The only stuff where it is still used for are mobile transaction codes for online banking and such things. But it shows just again how different the usecases are around the world and that features might be most important for some and almost completely useless for others. Our much more flexible mobile plans might be a big reason for that because many people pay just for data these days so things like Whatsapp or Hangouts are completely free while they would have to pay for SMS/MMS. G+_Tom Gehrke
It's probably about momentum and a standard. If I could get a critical mass of contacts using a single messaging service I'd be *thrilled *to ditch sms/mms. It is puzzling why is it seems so hard for the US to do that. Maybe you're right about the mobile plans being a factor.
G+_Leif
Tom Gehrke Getting all people to use the same one is here hard as well. Many use WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger, I prefer KakaoTalk (and luckily a few friends as well), and Hangouts is great as well. So basically I've all 4 installed on my phone which works fine. Thanks to push notifications they don't use much battery, except Facebook.
G+_Tom Gehrke
Leif Sikorski I think I could be OK with a small complement of apps. I've had WhatsApp installed for a while, but not one person I know uses it. >,< Hopefully with this update to Hangouts it will entice people to make it the One Messaging App To Rule Them All. A man can dream...
G+_Gene Chiu
I primarily use WhatsApp, the regular message app and then FB. I use Hangouts occasionally.
