G+_Alex Kruger
I'm looking for a financial planner app. I currently use mint, but it only helps with after I've spent money. I'm looking for a app/service that will allow me to plan my spending ahead of time. I.e.... 1. I get paid on these days (the ability to plug in my bank accounts like mint would be nice, my pay dates can be kind of weird sometimes). 2. These bills are due in these days for X amount 3. I have cards to pay off, I should pay X amount on this day. 4. I should go grocery shopping in these days I think you guys get the point. Thank you all for your recommendations. G+_George Fromtulsa
Good luck with that. I have all the bills I can auto-drawn and the payee/drawer sends email in advance of drawing. Most of my bills run similar amounts every month, so keeping enough in the account from which they're drawn isn't a big problem. The credit card bills that do vary send me email reminders, and I have Google Calendar send me SMS and email reminders each of five days before the payment "drop dead day." G+_Neil Sedlak
What I did was to create a Google Docs spreadsheet that contains my budget and my income. I then created a form attached to it which dumps data into a Expenses tab. The form requests the expense, amount, category and payment type. The category directly maps to budget amounts on the budget sheet, and decrements the total to show a remaining balance for each budget area. With my phone I can quickly submit expenses as I pay for things via the mobile browser, and use the Drive app to see my remaining balances on a custom tab just focused on that data rather than the entire budget. Additionally, I have tabs for tracking a "sinking fund" for future expected expenses, and another tab for long term savings/retirement/college planning. Every month I archive (copy) the budget and expenses to a separate yearly archive document and then zero out and plug in values for the coming month. Yes, I recreated a lot of what you can get in another app, but this works the way I want it to.
