G+_Scott Perrino
so maybe the community here can give me some helpful advice since i came to the twit community yesterday i got helpful advice on a podcast app. So a few weeks ago Jason Howell mentioned an app that roots a phone very easily. I don't quiet remember the name but i could always go find it. I m curious if this will work on a galaxy S4 and what would be the advantage too it ? also could i delete touch wiz off the device then and have a more straight forward Google centered phone? thanks in advance G+ =)
G+_Brandon K.
TouchWiz is framework. You just can't delete it from the phone. You need an AOSP based rom to enjoy a truly stock Andoid experience.
G+_Scott Perrino
I think i m confident in my ability to do the rooting and not deleting something that would brick my phone lol just curious if its worth it and what would be the benefit to doing so?? G+_Brian Bull
Actually, https://towelroot.com was the app I heard Jason Howell talk about most recently in the arena on AAA. ?
G+_Marlon Thompson
Scott Perrino I will look for it and message you later when I get home. In short having a rooted device allows you to have administrator control of your device allowing some apps to run that can take advantage of your hardware as well as allowing you to put custom roms on your phone and as such getting away from touch wiz
G+_Scott Perrino
that sounds like something im interested in i m just afraid i ll brick the device i mean it seems it cant be that bad ?? if this helps is a Galaxy s4 from verizion
G+_Alan Char
Even without installing a custom rom, rooting allows you to: - use a comprehensive backup tool like Titanium Backup - use a USB OTG tool to connect external USB drives - write to your external sd card from any app - remove apps that came with your phone that you never use (if you're careful) - edit, or at least view, system files (again, be careful) There are others, but those are the main reasons I root my phone. I don't flash a new rom since I have an S4 Google edition, and that's a lot trickier than rooting. Also, I didn't use towelroot to root my phone, but used the steps described in the xda-developers forum (at the time).
G+_Brian Bull
I also haven't used towelroot, but supposedly, according to Jason Howell, it's non destructive, meaning if it doesn't root your phone, there should be no ill side effects. I would research before using it just to make sure.
