G+_Ryan Ballard
What carrier are you on? If you're on one that doesn't allow you to use your Google Voice number as your cell number (like my carrier Verizon), then you'll need the internet. That's how it's always worked for me
G+_Wesley Mosier
Ryan Ballard I am on Verizon also. Ugh. I was so hoping this would solve that problem...
G+_Ryan Ballard
That's actually how it's designed.
G+_Wesley Mosier
It may be. But I want to be able to send texts without using an Internet connection. I can do that now by simply adding the Google Voice number that shows up when people text me.
G+_Ryan Ballard
Sure, but how does that circumvent the need for the internet?
G+_Wesley Mosier
If I text the unique number that appears in my stock text messaging app, I don't need Internet to text people via my Google Voice number.
G+_Kyle Turpin
Wesley Mosier What are you connected to which is delivering the messages if not the Internet?
G+_Wesley Mosier
Kyle Turpin I just use the standard text messaging app. You have to enable using the stock app to receive texts within the Google Voice app.
G+_Ryan Ballard
Right, but then why bother using Google Voice to begin with? Pardon my confusion, but why not just stick with the stock app exclusively?
G+_Kyle Turpin
Wesley Mosier Okay, that's sending a regular text message to that randomly assigned number for your contact. I see, sort of, does it fall to deliver things that way now? I haven't seen the problem here but honestly haven't paid attention.
G+_Wesley Mosier
Ryan Ballard I have two phones, so the ability for someone to text me or call me on one number and I get the call or text every time is necessary.
G+_Ryan Ballard
Ah, that makes sense.
G+_Wesley Mosier
Kyle Turpin when I turned on hangouts integration, yes it failed. So I had to turn off hangouts integration to receive texts when not connected.
G+_Wesley Mosier
Ryan Ballard and you'd be amazed how much longer my battery lasts with turning off all Internet until I need to check something. Plus, I don't use as much of my monthly data allowance that way.
G+_Ryan Ballard
I believe it. Data is a one of the most power intensive functions on a smartphone. Throw in a bunch of data hungry apps and it's a recipe for frequent charging
