G+_Joshua Masterson
I can confirm the Android Police article that carriers are not allowing the Motorola bought Nexus 6 on their networks. I just tried both USCellular and Verizon and both turned a potential customer away. How F'd up is that? http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/11/17/psa-cdma-carriers-probably-wont-activate-your-nexus-6-unless-it-was-purchased-from-google-play-or-that-carrier-and-what-you-can-do-about-it/
G+_Jonathan Mayer
This is why my last phone I bought from a carrier was over a year ago. You pay more for unlocked phones, but you get the freedom.
G+_Joshua Masterson
Jonathan Mayer except that the Nexus 6 bought directly from Motorola is unlocked. The hardware should work with all the 5 major US carriers, but they are the gate keepers of their own networks.
G+_Jonathan Mayer
I didn't argue that. The iPhone works on all carriers, but Sprint made a deal with Apple so you can't unlock these phones. These games are still exactly why I won't buy from a carrier again. Sprint and Verizon are the worse offenders with their aging technology. G+_Joshua Masterson
I agree with that sentiment
G+_L I
But it's always been this way with Verizon. As long as there was a CDMA radio in it they refuse. The issue with the Nexus 7 (The Jeff Jarvis rant) I'd that this device didn't have a CDMA radio - only LTE - and they were obliged to accept the device and didn't.
