G+_Piotr “Spaceman” Butkie
So I've been tinkering with SMS notification settings for far too long now, and I just stumbled upon a way to integrate Google Voice texting into Hangouts (I think). I just set Hangouts as the default SMS application and then in GV settings set the notifications so that text messages are received via the messaging app, which then sends everything thru Hangouts! The contact number that pops up seems to be random, but I can still reply without error. And more importantly I get the notifications the way I want thru Floating Notifications. Thoughts? G+_Joseph Cappellino
That's very interesting...and here I am waiting for Voice+ to be pushed to CyanogenMod 11.
G+_Joseph Cappellino
I just tested this, and it totally worked. It's not ideal as you have no idea as to who sent you the message (unless you go into Google Voice), but it works.
G+_Piotr “Spaceman” Butkie
Yeah it's definitely janky, but shows promise. Hopefully shouldn't be too difficult for Google to clean it up soon.
G+_S. LeBeau Kpadenou
I have to say that Voice+ seems to be the ideal way to do this. I used to have glitches where it would turn itself off and be difficult to turn back on. That was a problem, because Google Voice notifications were still being suppressed, so you would miss texts totally. Since Hangouts has replaced the stock messaging app, it has worked seamlessly, so much so that until reading your post I had begun to suspect that Hangouts was doing this by itself. G+_Alex Curtis
Yep! Piotr Butkiewicz if you have the people in your Google Voice address book, Hangouts does its best to tell you who it's from. Only drawback is that I haven't found a way to start a conversation using my Google Voice # from Hangouts (only works for replies).
G+_Joseph Cappellino
Piotr Butkiewicz - Koushik Dutta has merged Voice+ into CyanogenMod. I'm upgrading now. No more workaround for me! https://plus.google.com/110558071969009568835/posts/9Mg1NYRHL1f
