G+_Brandon Giesing / CosiC
Swype Keyboard Review Ever since this keyboard has come out, a new type of keyboard genre was born! What keyboard am I talking about? Why, the ever popular Swype! A few months ago they finally released it in the Google Play Store to much applause with one downside. People now had to pay 99¢ and they said that was only a sale for launch. Can this beat the popular SwiftKey 4? Let's go take a look! So when you install the keyboard, you are presented with a setup screen which is fairly commonplace. When you get towards the end there is an important feature though and that is cloud sync. It will sync your dictionary across devices. That is it though, it won't sync any of your settings. After setting up it and confirming your cloud sync account via email, you can check out the settings. Included are options for showing the voice input key, changing themes, key press sounds and vibrations, handwriting (which is good for Chinese users), and complete trace which will show the whole trace instead of it disappearing behind you. That however is only the main settings page! You can also configure your dictionary and learn from Facebook, Twitter, and Gmail like SwiftKey. There is also something called Living Language which allows the keyboards dictionary to be automatically updated with new and popular words like Gangam. It can also automatically learn new words that you type without any user intervention like SwiftKey. Lastly there is some help stuff and an add-ons page that doesn't have any yet. So now to get typing! Well it is fast and easy! You won't get as good predictions as SwiftKey but sometimes the Living Language makes up for it though by predicting pop culture things like Dancing with the Stars that SwiftKey just wouldn't normally get out of the box. On tablets there is a mini mode that you can float on top of your app. There is also a split keyboard but it doesn't support swiping. So would I recommend trying this keyboard? Yes! The living language makes up for most of its downfalls and it has almost zero lag. But would I recommend it over SwiftKey, probably not, unless you want it only for the swiping. Even though SwiftKey's Flow feature is really buggy and this is much better, SwiftKey has better predictions with the exception of popular terms thanks to the Living Language.
