TouchPal Wave Review

Like the new BlackBerry's keyboard with its unique prediction selection method? The folks at TouchPal, have implemented a similar method with some unique twists that might be good or bad. Let's dive into TouchPal Wave!

Let's start with the biggest thing about TouchPal Wave and that is TouchPal Wave! This adds on to it's existing Curve technology by allowing you to type full sentences without lifting your finger kinda like SwiftKey's Flow Though Space. However, you will still have to lift your finger in most cases. You start the same way you type any other words using Curve or tapping and floating suggestions will appear on top of the keyboard. Drag from these to the space bar and then to the next floating suggestion if it is relevant to your sentence. Keep sliding to the next floating suggestion till you make a complete sentence or no more relevant words come up, then repeat from the beginning! That's it!

This is different from BB10 version in that you have to initiate the suggestions and you have to swipe down to the space bar.

They're some other new features than just the Wave technology. There is a one-handed mode, a store where you can get themes, and a dictionary editor.

You heard me right, the themes are no longer free. You have to complete missions or invite friends to get credits to purchase the themes for 20 a piece. Plus, there are not enough missions to get enough credits to buy all the themes forcing you to spam your friends to get them!

Also you can't learn from Facebook or Google, only Twitter and SMS and it syncs your dictionary via the Twitter login.

Should you download this? It's a no. While it may be a great update for existing TouchPal users, making the themes "paid" and not giving you enough credits to buy all of them is a big downside. Also I had used it for a long time and it still didn't learn my typing style. Although for being one of the only free competitors to SwiftKey and Swype that is somewhat good on predictions, you may still want to try it.
