G+_Brandon Giesing / CosiC
Tio Keyboard Review We have seen the Minuum keyboard smash the QWERTY Keyboard down into a row, but did you know that it wasn't the first to do it? Meet the Tio Keyboard, a multi-layout keyboard that centers around 10 keys. This keyboard is all possible thanks to 2 technologies called Keystick and CSP (pronounced "cusp"). Keystick takes the 3 rows of the QWERTY keyboard and smashes it down into 1 row or 10 buttons. This is very similar to Minuum except that they're separate buttons. They then move the center two keys down a row. CSP, on the other hand, is a predictive text technology that uses word combination to make new words and then predicts those words without a bar taking up space. To show you how these are used we will have to talk about the different layouts! By default it comes with a 3 line view called Tio Tap. This has the Keystick with 12 other function keys. These keys include arrow keys which you use to combine two words together to make new words, a settings key, previous and next keys to cycle between suggestions, a keyboard switch key, and number and symbols mode keys. It can also be split. Speaking of the keyboard switch key, there are 3 other layouts: 1. Tio Flix is basically the Keystick with no function keys except space, previous and next, keyboard switch, and backspace and the center keys not moved down. It puts the rest of the functions to Flick Gestures. The left and right side both have different gestures, to view them, press and hold on the space or next keys. It can also be split like the Tap keyboard and it removes the switch key assigning it to a gesture and moves the two center keys down like Tap. 2. Tio Squiggle is a Swype like keyboard. The reason I say like instead of style is because of the different concept behind it. Yes, you are still tracing the letters but instead of tracing from key to key you are tracing across a line. On the line is segments for each key on the Keystick. Cross the line in that segment and it will produce the letter. You can also trace all punctuation and numbers unlike Swype. 3. Full is just a normal Qwerty keyboard for times you need to enter a password or username. So should you download this keyboard? Yes because it saves a lot of space and it has a lot of innovation.
