G+_Brandon Giesing / CosiC
(Updated my SwiftKey review for the latest version with the SwiftKey Cloud feature) SwiftKey 4.2 Keyboard Review Heard of SwiftKey? Well you probably have as it is the number one paid app on the Google Play Store. Is it worth it though? Let's find out in this review of SwiftKey 4.2. One of the biggest new features is SwiftKey Flow. If you know what Swype is, you know what Flow is. It is a gesture typing feature exactly like Swype. What makes it different from Swype though is a feature called Flow Through Space. This allows you to type full sentences without lifting up your fingers. To do it glide your finger down to the space bar after gliding a word then continue on to the next word! The other new feature is called SwiftKey Cloud. This is basically a umbrella title for 3 different features. The first one is Backup and Sync. As you expect this syncs your predictions across all of your devices and allows you to restore your predictions if you have to reset your phone. The second feature is Improved Prediction. This means that there will be more services and it will use your apps to login without typing in your username again. The third one is something called Trending Phrases. This pulls the stuff trending on Twitter into your dictionary so you can quickly talk about the latest news like the birth of the royal baby. One of the other features it has is something called Smart Space. With this you can forget spaces sometimes and it will automatically put them in. It also features a number pad in the symbols layout instead of having the numbers across the top of the keys which I prefer and the second symbols page has arrow keys for navigation. You can even add arrow keys to the whole keyboard on the phone version. The tablet version also has a split keyboard in landscape mode. That brings me to my downsides. First of all, there are two different versions of the keyboard for Phones and Tablets. Most modern applications use one app for both. Secondly, If you are looking to buy this cause of the SwiftKey Flow, don't. It is still fairly weak and Swype is a lot better and cheaper. Lastly their is the price. It costs $3.99 for both the tablet and phone versions and if you want both you will be paying twice. So the verdict on the SwiftKey 4 keyboard? Even though it has a lot of downsides, the prediction makes up for everything! It is so smart that it probably knows that I am going to give it a yes! The only thing I would suggest is that you wait for it to go on sale which happens fairly often!
