G+_Dean Penderghast
I have a question for all of you Google Wallet users: Let's say you have a credit card that gives you points for gas and other stuff. Not everything but just specific stuff. Now you go get gas and instead of using your credit card you use Google Wallet that's tied to that card. Do you still get points or does the credit card company just show Google Wallet as the purchaser?
G+_Q. Davis
No you don't.? https://support.google.com/wallet/answer/2688794?hl=en&topic=2467414&ctx=topic
G+_Dean Penderghast
That pretty much kills Google Wallet for me. I ONLY use my cards to earn points. No points, no use.
G+_Q. Davis
I use Google Wallet for online purchases and subscription services to protect my real credit card information. I also like the notifications on purchases. So... it's not completely useless. ??
G+_Randy Strye
I get cash back when using my card through Google Wallet. Not sure how similar that is but it's worth it to try.
G+_Steve Brady
I use my Google Wallet several ways. The first is as a "pre-paid" debit card. Move the money over to the account, then I know how much I have to spend, and I have to make a (very) conscious decision to move more money in. The second is a "tap and pay" tool. I have that to draw (by default) on an AmEx card. (One that is paid in full every month.) Like the CapitalOne ad, I prefer points on every purchase and not just a few things ("who eats that much popcorn!? Really?") Yes--the transactions show as being Google Wallet transactions, but they also show the store/purchase point of sale. If you call your credit card company, ask them if they can acknowledge that information and code it correctly. USAA did (okay, so I have another account I use. LOL) I realize I said "several ways." I also bounce between using the plastic Google Wallet card, and the tap and pay--more driven by who accepts it than any thing else. (Or, occasionally, I just want to feel "cool" paying with the "Google Card." LOL)
G+_Dean Penderghast
Steve Brady I'm a bit confused about what you said. According to Google, we don't earn points when using Google Wallet but you just said you do earn points. Which is it? Also when you get your credit card statement, does it say just "Google Wallet" or does it say "Stan's BBQ Pit"?
G+_Steve Brady
Dean Penderghast I get points whenever I use my American Express card. So since the charge shows up on that card, I get the points for spending money with that card. Actually what Google says is "You may not earn..." And then in the next paragraph they say "Rewards and benefits, if applicable, will be decided by your card's issuer. " So a lot depends on your card. My point simply was since I earn points regardless of where the charge is made, I get "credit." (see reference to Capital One). Now, to answer the "how does it show up..." question. I WISH I was going to Stan's BBQ Pit. My example is a bit more boring. I use the Wegmans grocery store chain here in the northeast. And my charge from yesterday shows up on my AMEX statement as: GOOGNFC*WEGMANS #45 (TOWNNAME) I hope this helps.
G+_Steve Brady
Oh, and Dean Penderghast If I am inferring correctly, you are saying you generally use "cash" for expenses when you aren't using your card to get points. Then Google Wallet is perfect for that. Just move money onto the account and spend out of that fund. Convenience of a debit card, without the risk of losing the card information and getting "wiped out" by someone stealing your information.
G+_Dean Penderghast
Steve Brady Actually I don't carry cash anymore. I put everything on my American Express Card and I earn double and triple points if I use my card at specific places. But more importantly I need the credit card statement to show me where the charge was made at. If the entire statement says "Google Wallet" then that's useless to me. If I use Google Wallet at CVS Pharmacy and the bank statement just says "Google Wallet", then how do I know this for medical expenses?

G+_Dean Penderghast
Randy Strye I really appreciate you showing me that. I'll have to set it up and try it out then.
G+_Steve Brady
Dean Penderghast I understand the concern. That's why I included my example about Wegmans (similar to the image Randy Strye put in, but I only included the text. Sorry about that.)
G+_Dean Penderghast
After looking at the scans more closely I notice it says Debit Card and not Credit Card. Does that mean you don't have full credit card protection?
G+_Randy Strye
Dean Penderghast? that I'm not sure about. I know it runs as credit, otherwise I wouldn't get my cash back
