G+_Sebastian Mauer
Originally shared by Sebastian Mauer Ok, here it is. The first public beta of #CheapCast . I decided to put this up for free since I believe it could potentially useful to a whole lot of people. If you like it and it works for you, feel free to just use one of the Donation options within the App. I will also make the Source Code available in the near future (I'm still cleaning it a bit up). Just watch this space: https://github.com/mauimauer/cheapcast I hope to further improve the App and welcome anybody who wants to contribute. In my first PoC-Video I've showed CheapCast with YouTube, I've just uploaded another video showing Google Music streaming to a Nexus 7 running CheaCast: As this is the first public Beta please expect things to fail. I appreciate your feedback. Please log your issues/bugreports here: https://github.com/mauimauer/cheapcast/issues Hope you enjoy it. #ChromeCast UPDATE: Apparently it also works on the infamous Nexus Q: See https://plus.google.com/114930558215776389910/posts/6k9kbmL2Cxo (Let's hope Google doesn't get mad. I still want to work there someday :D) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=at.maui.cheapcast
G+_Scott Lebsack
Tried this on the Logitech Revue, still a few bugs, I get a few seconds of sound...
G+_Bobby Richardson
This works on Ouya!
G+_Paul Werner
I couldn't get it to work on my OUYA Bobby Richardson . I saw a couple posts on G+ saying it works but for me it doesn't show up in the CheapCast sharing menu at all. Tried reinstalling, updating the the latest apk, rebooting the service. Not sure what is wrong though
G+_Ryan Yakus
Paul Werner is your ouya connected by ethernet or wifi? on the reddit thread about this, a lot of people are saying it won't work on an ethernet connection. It's running on my ouya and youtube and google music are working fine. netflix won't recognize it yet, and google movies fails to connect.
G+_Paul Werner
Thanks, mine is connected by Ethernet so I can easily use XBMC to stream in 1080p. I'll try on WiFi later tonight
G+_Paul Werner
Ryan Yakus , just tried it with both my N7 (2012) & OUYA connected to the same Wi-Fi. Still doesn't show my OUYA in the list
G+_Ryan Yakus
did you try installing the chromecast app on your n7 and "syncing". I don't think this is really necessary, but you should at least be able to see the cheapcast running through that app
G+_Paul Werner
No but I'll try that right now
G+_Paul Werner
Tried it just now and the chromecast app only sees the cheapcast nexus
G+_Ryan Yakus
wait did you install the app on your n7 or your ouya? you should install it on your n7. also try turning off the cheapcast on the n7 and only run the one on the ouya. when you go into YouTube you don't see the cast button? G+_Paul Werner
I installed it on both thinking I'd cast something from my N7 to my OUYA. I do see the cast button in YouTube but the only thing that it wants to cast to is the N7, the OUYA doesn't show up in the list
G+_Ryan Yakus
in order to cast from your n7 to your ouya you only need cheapcast installed on the ouya. think of cheapcast as turning your ouya into a chromecast; you only need the chromecast plugged into your tv, not both devices try stopping/uninstalling the cheapcast on the n7 and see if that helps. G+_Paul Werner
Gotcha, doing that however makes the cast button disappear in the YouTube app. Not sure why it won't see my OUYA. I'm sure I have something screwing this up.
G+_Ryan Yakus
hmm...play music on my girlfriend's n7 didn't show up right away either, I finally got it to see it by uninstalling the music app and reinstalling. this is still a beta, who knows what's wonky
G+_Ryan Yakus
OH WAIT I BET I KNOW. go into developer settings and turn off destroy all background processes. I bet it's killing cheapcast as soon as you exit it
G+_Paul Werner
I tried that just now but same thing. No cheapcast button and chromecast app doesn't recognize it still

G+_Paul Werner
I can when I get back home. It could be that though it's a bit strange that it'd only affect casting
