G+_Shawn P. Conroy (Shawn)
What exactly does the Hangouts 2.0 Group MMS messaging do? Are replies to your messages supposed to go to everyone else in the group, or not? When they said group MMS messaging I hoped this means everyone would see everyone else's replies. Does anyone know how this works? In the last couple hours only one person has replied, but it seems no one else got that text but me. This is no different than group messages on feature phones from years ago.
G+_Joseph Cappellino
I'm pretty sure it's true group messaging. I only say this add my wife hadn't complained yet. ;-)
G+_Shawn P. Conroy (Shawn)
I was continuing research and I discovered that there is such a thing as true group messaging. I thought such things didn't exist. And that my phone has been capable of this before with the stock Android texting app. I'm a little disappointed with that. I could have been using group texting features with friends. It is not yet working for me, but that might be because I had some contact information stored wrong on my phones. G+_Larry Garcia
It looks to me like Google is trying to take over all messaging on my phone and replacing the native messaging app with Hangouts. It even says it will migrate all your old messages into hangouts... I'm not sure I want google taking over one more app on my devices... with the native app, I have ownership and control of all the data.. with Hangouts, google has it all. G+_Joseph Cappellino
Larry Garcia - From what I've read, the old messages aren't actually uploaded to Google's servers (which I something I would rather have). They are currently only stored on the device, just displayed in the Hangouts app.

G+_Xavier M
I have a question maybe you guys can answer. I installed the app but haven't turned it on. When I do will I get double notifications one from my default SMS (VZW S3) & Hangouts or just one. If I decide I don't like it will I be able to have my texts in my old SMS program when I opt out? G+_Joseph Cappellino
Xavier M - If you're on 4.3 and prior (which the S3 definitely is), then yes, you will get double notifications. That's easily remedied by going into the default SMS app and disabling notifications. Additionally, if you're not on 4.4, there is only one messaging database and they all pull from that. That being said, Hangouts might do something different. Either way, it should be fairly seamless. Good luck.
G+_Shawn P. Conroy (Shawn)
I have no problem switching back and forth. Easy.
G+_Ned Jeffery
Larry Garcia sms messages are not turned into hangout messages. It's simply that the one app handles both tasks. I have a sms conversation and a hangout conversation to the same person on my phone right now. So don't worry. Your sms's are still yours to keep and backup manually the old way. No uploading to the cloud is done.
