I had an idea and have been doing some research about building a “Carputer” using an iPad mini or an Android tablet. ( I prefer using an iPad but haven’t been able to find an application like “Tasker” for Apple devices.) Anyway, I was hoping that you might consider building a “Carputer” as a project that covers many episodes.

 

What I would like to do is replace the car stereo with a tablet that can:

 

1. Play music and audio podcasts (using something like Apples podcast app and Spotify).

2. Automatically turn on and display the video from a backup camera when selecting reverse.

3. Bluetooth sync with a cellphone, mute music and announce called when a call comes in.

4. Accept voice commands to control all functions.

5. Use car’s stereo speakers and a microphone to talk on the phone while driving.

5. Maybe use a wireless OBD sensor to display car data when selected.

6. Sync with home network when at home to download email, podcasts, etc.

7. Anything else you can think of like accessing a USB hard drive full of music.

 

Does this sound like a good application series?

 

I would also be interested in your thoughts on mounting a tablet in the dash of a car.
