Raspberry Pi would make sense for this. As for setting up a regular server at home to act as a web server, with the cost of hosting provisions constantly dropping, I doubt there's much interest in it these days. Just my two cents on it.

But wouldn't a dedicated server at home be better than a shared server at a hosting company? I had all sorts of problems because my site was taking up too much CPU time.

It probably depends on a lot of factors, like how much bandwidth you have at home, what kind of site you are hosting, how many visitors you get, etc.

 

Most home internet connections have pretty limited upload, which can make it pretty hard to host much of a website from home.

 

It can be done though, and is a good learning experience if nothing else. :)

Well, I have 75 meg upload here in Singapore. I wonder if that would be enough?

It depends on what kind of site you are running and how many visitors you expect.  For a small/medium site, it is probably more than plenty.
