G+_Floyd Fernandez
What is this all about? Is it real and what are the pitfalls?
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Pitfalls would be: (1) Expensive, (2) Fragile - compared to asphalt/concrete, (3) Expensive Pros: Solar Freakin' Roadways!
G+_Andrew Forte
I live in Western NY, no way would I want these on the roads. Rubber on wet glass at 80mph. Where's my lawyer? There is a set of rail road tracks on my way to work every morning that I go over and they are far from smooth It is three lanes wide in each direction. I drive a 6000lb SUV, you can't take the right eastbound lane at more than 45mph without the truck bottoming out. Wonder how fast I could break one (or more) of these panels? There are people breaking into abandoned houses in the city to steal the copper pipes to sell to the recycling plants for money. Wonder how long before someone is ripping up the road for the copper wiring?
G+_Andrew Forte
Bob Wya just found and read Phase II prototype of this project. Still leaves questions. Ok, designed to support 250K lbs, and says was impact tested, but no details on the impact testing done. "ended up with a texture that can stop a vehicle going 80 mph in the required distance" What is the required distance? "How will snow melt/water be dispersed? .... The water is gravity fed through filtration socks (or other treatment options that customers may wish to add) and into a storage tank below the frost line." Filtration system and storage tanks? Seriously The frost line is 42" in NY and 2 feet of snow over night is not uncommon in some areas. How big does this have to be? Plus the filtration system will need to be heated to below the frost like so it does not freeze! The more I read, the less I think this will succeed
