G+_Jamie Todd
I was wondering what is the best app to use Google Voice to make phone calls via wifi on my cell phone? Thanks in advance.
G+_Joseph Cappellino
I've used GrooveIP in the past. I don't know if there is anything else out that works better.
G+_Jamie Todd
I have heard of Talkatone, GrooveIP, etc...
G+_Michael Abernathy
Talkatone and grooveip are the two I use. The paid edition of grooveip is the main one I use daily at home. Both are getting updates pretty regularly.
G+_Daniel Charles
I use a SIP phone and Voice+. You can add a SIP account in the dialer under "internet call settings". I've also tried PBXes.org via SIPDroid (for setup only) along with the Voice+ app. Once set up, incoming calls are seamlessly integrated, no additional app required, and you just have to select which phone you want to ring on outgoing calls. Please report back on your findings. I would like to know if there is a better solution out there.
G+_Joseph Cappellino
Daniel Charles - I have done what you said (an account through PBXes.org and SIPDroid), but it tends to have a bit of lag, and is awful on 3G. That being said, I might be able to tweak things using Tasker and the GV Locations plugin, so that when not on LTE or WiFi to not use the GTalk/Hangouts. Also, There's a lot of layers going on there! ;-)
G+_Daniel Charles
Joseph Cappellino, yes, it's a bit... involved. And I do regularly experience lag. I use it as a backup to my main phone; I only use it when I'm on wifi and I don't have a good cell connection. I guess I'll have to check out the two apps previously mentioned if they work better. G+_Joseph Cappellino
Daniel Charles - Last time I checked, there was still some lag while using GrooveIP, but it might be better in recent version.
G+_Michael Abernathy
The only lag I currently experience with grooveip is on initial pick up. I keep saying hello until I'm acknowledged :-) ?
G+_Jamie Todd
I bought the premium version of Groove IP and installed it on my Nexus 7 tablet and my android phone, and unfortunately it didn't work very well for me. It is possible that it was in part due to my wifi service at home. I made the mistake of not trying the free version first, which is my fault. They were good enough to refund my money though. I know this isn't associated with Google Voice, but what is your experience with Skype, especially if you pay the monthly fee so you can call landlines & cell phones? Is it worth it? Thanks.
