G+_Brendan Smith
Hello Iyaz and Padre SJ I just wanted to let you know what a great resource that you each have been. How about a show on LAN over AC? I setup my Trendnet AC1750 but I want to know what is going on in the background and what can I do further to safeguard the home network from someone tapping onto my power line outside my house to get onto my devices. G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Brendan Smith I am not a fan of powerline networking. The convenience is nice, but the speed and reliability are seriously lacking. As for the tapping part, MOST modern HomePlug/Powerline networking gear is set for a default encryption password that you should be able to change through their config program. G+_William Burlingame
There are situations where it might be the best option. I have a detached garage and was unable to get a WiFi signal from the house to the garage. I tried directional antennae and had mixed results. Trees and the distance were obstacles. The expense to run cable to the garage was not in my budget. It would mean digging a trench, tunneling under concrete, buying conduit, etc. My application is a security camera. I now have seven cameras around my property and the networking over powerline is working well. If I had an office in the garage and needed the speed and reliability it might be a different story. G+_Vincent Tompkins
Remember that the power-lines are a well exposed antenna for both sending and receiving. So stay away from the walls where the wires may be running.
G+_Brendan Smith
Marcelo Henrique Thanks for the advice. I have to admit I have been very pleased with the service. I am using the 500 AV 4 port adapter on one hand and regrettably I purchased a 200 MB on the other side. Thank you again for your input.
