G+_Joseph Hurtsellers
I'm using a Verizon Galaxy Nexus with stable Cyanogen. I'm holding out as long as I can for a new phone - but the performance issues are really starting to be a pain. Does anyone know if an update to 4.3 will help my phone the same way it helped the original Nexus 7? I noticed that Jason Howell mentioned he was using a 4.3 ROM on the last show - and it might help. Any thoughts or experiences?
G+_Jeff Idol
I'm running cm Android 4.3 and I have to s say it helps my first Gen Droid Razr which has similar spec to the galaxy Nexus, so imagine you would see a performance increase. MINE has to use kexec so your experence should be better.
G+_Jason Howell (raygun01)
I started clean with Shiny a few weeks ago as its a relatively pure 4.3 AOSP and I have been very happy with the performance improvements. But it's always hard to tell for sure this early cause any wipe and flash of a brand new Rom is going to seem great when you first do it. Having said that, I've been very happy and I'm more and more convinced that the Trim inclusion in 4.3 is helping my GN performance wise. http://rootzwiki.com/index.php?/topic/36706-[ROM][AOSP][4.3](8/13/
G+_Jeff Idol
Jason Howell good point a nice flash makes a difference for awhile in most cases.
G+_Derek McAllister
Funny, I just emailed AAA to ask what ROM Jason Howell was using. I've been using Shiny for a long time (as in 4.1). There does seem to be a difference but be cautious as Jason said. This upgrade was the first I've done a clean install with for a while. The biggest difference I see between mine on 4.3 and my wife (Shiny 4.2.2) is that my cache is usually less then 10MB while hers is usually in the hundreds within a day of clearing it. I'm on the 8/13 build and was waiting for some stability before moving hers. This one is much more stable then previous ones and I saw yesterday that he just released another. And just a note, Jason's link will take you to the latest, not just the 8/13 build. Hope another opinion on that one helps. BTW, he attempts to make this as much like an OTA as possibly so if you like all the customizations in Cyanogenmod, this isn't really for you... G+_Curtis Gray
I'm running the CM nightly on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus. Performance greatly improved. Definitely worth a try - just make sure to backup in case you don't like it.
G+_Canyon Russell
I loaded up a 4.3 ROM just a few days after it was released and its made a huge difference. It was also the first full wipe I had done in over a year, so that may have helped.
G+_Joseph Hurtsellers
Thanks Jason Howell - I know what I'm going to be doing tonight :) Also Curtis Gray I was running the nightlies on Cyanogen but found that it broke my Ingress app and the play store at this early stage - I'll for sure go back when it get's more stable. G+_Curtis Gray
For what it's worth, latest nightly works fine with play store and ingress for me, but I did a clean install.
G+_Joseph Hurtsellers
Curtis Gray Dang - thanks - sadly I already put the stock one on - but it's no big deal to do the clean so I'll eventually get back to Cyanogen at some point anywho (especially if Koush ends up integrating that ChromeCast stuff.)
