G+_Jeff Gros
Loving the show Padre and Cranky Hippo! I'm also loving this focus on 3d printers. Since no one can actually buy one of these Da Vince Jr units yet, could you guys run the 3d printer test suite listed in make magazine? Here's the link: https://makezine.com/2014/11/07/how-to-evaluate-the-2015-make-3dp-test-probes/ I'd love to see where it stacks up before I sink my cash in this thing. I'm also confused on what a heated bed does for you. Does it make the print stick better so it doesn't shift when printing? I've heard others talk about how they preheat their bed to 60 C before starting the print because they couldn't get consistent results otherwise. And that was with PLA, not ABS! https://makezine.com/2014/11/07/how-to-evaluate-the-2015-make-3dp-test-probes
G+_Taylor Graham
I think it's because the plastic shrinks a bit as it cools, and the heated bed keeps the plastic warm until the entire print is finished. That way the entire print can cool at once, preventing any warping of the object.
G+_Eddie Foy
60C for PLA and 100C for ABS was/is a norm. PLA can also be non heated bed 9so they tell me). I haven't used PLA yet (bought a spool like 4 years ago, but ABS has been good to me, and never clogged a nozzle) I heat the bed to ~100C, use the acetone slurry, very thing layer. I've had it adhere so well I've pulled chip of glass off with the part (usually large, long run parts.) RepRap Prusa printer.
