I was thinking last night about a DiY Nanny cam or surveillance camera.  Basically I am going to go out of town next week.  I thought it would be cool to setup a camera and login from my phone to see how things are going back at home.  My first thought was to use a old laptop and a webcam.  Then I wondered if I could do something like this with an old android phone.  So I have my old Droid X lying around.  Would there be a app or some way to turn my old phone into a video device that I could check remotely from my Galaxy S3?

I was just going to come here and post this too :)  Saw some videos on how to get it to work.  Also using TinyCam Monitor https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alexvas.dvr&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5hbGV4dmFzLmR2ciJd

I haven't gotten it working via the internet yet. but internal network it worked fine.

I have also read people signing up for ustream accounts.  I was thinking of trying to figure out ways to record it also, but we will see whatelse I can find out.  Kind of cool stuff.  Might make a decent show

William Tate You can use IP WEBCAM to do this. It is in the play store and its free. Now to use it as an ip cam you will have to jump through a few hoops. The list is a little long for here but some of them are port forwarding and setting up a static  ip address so you can view it from outside the house. It takes a little while but it does work.

Forgot to post I got it working from remote.  I used IP Webcam on the phones, then port forwarded in my router.  I am able to check it from my S3 using tinyCam Monitor, but can also check it out from the chrome browser using java, or viewing in VLC :)  Maybe I will make my own know how video on it ;)
