G+_Mark Coulter
I watched a show recently and your advertisement was the SmartThing system. Have you reviewed this item on your show yet?
G+_John Mink
When you say "review" you mean "demonstrate how it can be used" or like a Before You Buy style review?
G+_Mark Coulter
Demo or Before You Buy..Either would be correct. I'm interested in a small home security that doesnt require monthly fees.I searched the TWIT website but didnt see anything.

G+_Mark Coulter
Good point..Doesn't have to be any product in particular, just looking for a way to monitor the house without paying monthly fees.
G+_Ben Reese
Yes, they have mentioned Smart Things. Seems like it was for an ad though
G+_Wayne Black
The page for "SmartThings" to me is a little deceptive. Yes you can monitor your house with a Dropcam or other cameras, but I would imagine you'll still have to pay Dropcam a monthly fee for dvr recording and storage. The way I see it is, you have to have a static ip address to do live video monitoring and that's what they're selling as most ISPs don't provide one. Anyone have a way to monitor a Dropcam from anywhere in the world without paying the monthly fee?
G+_John Mink
You could run DDNS (Dynamic DNS) to provide a static URL despite having a dynamic IP.
G+_Wayne Black
John Mink I guess I should have said "easy way". LOL. I've been down that rabbit hole before and if you've never done it or had someone sit at your computer and show you what to do it can be confusing for some. Besides that I turn my computer off at night and from what I understand the Dynamic DNS Update Client would have to be running in order to monitor your ip address for changes. G+_Ben Reese
Wayne Hobbins? depending on your DDNS service, your router may keep it up to date. Regardless, the client only needs to call home if your public IP changes.
G+_Lance Pelissier
Right now the thing I hate about stuff like SmartThings and lowes Irises is that you can't relay mix match making shopping around not to good. The nice thing about that tool kit DVD I sent them is that you can use anything that supports sanders like Z WAVE.
