G+_Matthew Bowe
DVR + Chromecast?? My brother and I sit on opposite ends of the cord cutting school of thought. I use chromecasts to stream everything from cloud services and he has built a Windows Media Center HTPC and records all of his shows from OTA. Is there a way we can combine efforts and build the ultimate Media Center DVR controlled by an android tablet and streamable to a chromecast? I have thought about building a Plex server for downloaded and ripped media, but that would still require a mouse and keyboard (or IR remote) interface to control the TV tuner and DVR. Any thoughts? G+_Reuben H
Uh dude Plex will cast to a Chromecast. Just put the app on your phone and you can browse the library and throw it up to the TV.
G+_Matthew Bowe
Perhaps I didn't word my question very well. I want to manage the DVR with the mobile device. That way I don't have to set up the recordings and subscriptions with one interface and view them through plex with another.
G+_Reuben H
Oh. I see. Yeah I can't help you there. I have no ideas how DVRs work.
G+_Lucas Van Enger
I for one have never tried MythTV only because I live a little more functionality.Chrome cast is awesome if all you want to do is stream from your devices but has no DVR functionality that I am aware of. IMHO the best of both world can me achieved building an XBMC box. It is very versatile and has numerous apps for controlling it from Android once you have it all setup. I use two and have them accessing all of their media files on a FreeNAS box that I built. I can go into more detail if you would like. Have fun and happy building. G+_Dan Clark
Have a look at my media center - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ceton.companion - this is what I used when I still had a windows media center. Might be exactly what you're looking for.
