G+_John Nichol
I've always wondered why Lollipop on my 2014 Moto X was nice and smooth, but was incredibly painful to use on my Nexus 9 (slow to respond, apps having blank screened when loading, taking ashes to load etc) Then I heard a discussion on one of the Twit shows about Google turning off the encryption by default as users had experienced slow down of their devices, and it resonated with my experience. Sure enough, encryption is on on my Nexus 9 but off on my Moto X. However, it appears I can't switch it off on the Nexus 9. Pressing 'encryption' in the security settings does nothing. Does anyone know how I can turn off the encryption?
G+_Tony Fleming
You may have to reset and reinstall with encryption off.
G+_Joseph Cappellino
Unfortunately, the only way to "disable" encryption is to perform a factory reset, as Tony Fleming said.
G+_John Adams
The way I did it was to unlock it(which will wipe all data) I like Wug Fresh NRT kit: http://www.wugfresh.com/ Used Wug's to root. During the reinstall of a custom rom also install a custom kernel that wont encrypt. Go to XDA if you have anymore questions: http://goo.gl/RxWVNV
G+_John Nichol
Thanks guys. Not the answer I was hoping for! You'd think there would be an easier way.
G+_James Heuer
John Nichol Unfortunately not. The whole point of encryption is to protect your device from someone else doing exactly that to it though. Security vs. Convenience as always.
