G+_Darrell Duffy
Love the show. Please consider an episode about traffic monitoring for a home network. Here's my whole question. Looks like PFsense might work, but I want a graphic interface if possible - web or program. I have plenty of NAT routers, but need external traffic bandwidth counts. Thanks. http://superuser.com/questions/669458/how-can-i-monitor-network-traffic
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
You can use the setup we demonstrated in episode 64. Use an aggregating tap (or just a hub) and place it between the modem and the router. It will give you all traffic to and from the Internet. -- Wireshark will give you all the stats you need. G+_Darrell Duffy
I want to get network traffic in Bytes not packets. I've found this router which has Graphic output of bytes in/out on a daily basis. BUFFALO AirStation HighPower N300 Gigabit Wireless Router WZR-300HP Problem solved. Ordering it now. G+_Darrell Duffy
That looks nice. At the end of the month I need a total in bytes so I have an independent number when Frontier wants to cap me. Someday I'll want some breakdown - Streaming, Gaming, Downloads, Webtraffic, Other... But a running total I can reset is good for now. Replacing my WiFi router with one that has the feature means no more things in the path to the internet. I'd rather not Roll My Own if I can buy an appliance.
