G+_Kevin Kelly
iyaz akhtar Hey, I was wondering if you could do an update to your episode about putting Linux on a usb, because Windows 8 has gone made it very complicated to boot into a usb now. I have the usb's and I know how to change the boot order, but it's not working and I can't figure why. This could even be great for a quick tip. Thanks! G+_Collin Winans
Booting from a USB drive should have nothing to do with Windows 8. That is all done before Windows loads. Anytime I have trouble booting from a USB drive, the drive itself is usually the culprit. Sometimes a file gets shifted around and makes it unbootable. G+_Kevin Kelly
Collin Winans But with UEFI, there is no option to press something like F2 or Del before Windows boots. Now, there is way to get into a BIOS-like menu and change boot order, but that did not work. Perhaps it is the fault of the stick.

G+_brothercrow
Don't you have to turn off secure boot to make it work?
G+_brothercrow
my understanding is that only ubuntu has the correct keys to leave secure boot in place but you would have to do an install not run it from the usb key.
G+_Chad Troyer
if you have windows 8 quick start up on it doesn't truly shut your system off... it puts it in a deep sleep. You can shut that feature off in the power settings. restarting your machine also shows the screen to get into your bios
