G+_Dallam Oliver-Lee
I found an old 1980's MiniScribe MFM hard drive being stored in box in a anti-static bag for many years in my grandfather's work. How can you hook it up to more recent computer and read the data?

G+_Matthew McChesney (Brai
My guess is find the old computer that it goes with. Wait for the data to come up on the screen. Take a picture with your phone.
G+_qrt see
Don't think you can find a MFM controller that will hook up to a pci or pci-e slot. Best bet is to buy an old motherboard on ebay and dump the data to... wait for it. Floppies. because doubt you can find a usb for that old of a motherboard (ISA). You might be able to find a motherboard with MFM controller and IDE but think they would be expensive. If I am right drive will only have 10 meg on it anyway. 20 were normally half height drives. before you send the money on anything I would plug up the drive to power and see if it even spins. Make sure that you get you cable plugged up correctly otherwise you will corrupt everything on the drive. Good Luck.
G+_Curtis Boyle
You will likely need to get an old computer with an older hard drive controller), as others have said, but you should be able to transfer the data (if there isn't too much) via USB, with a serial to USB cable, an some terminal software on both computers. G+_qrt see
Didn't think about the USB to serial good idea. but for the amount of data might not be worth it.
G+_Dallam Oliver-Lee
I did find a small portable board that does ISA to USB. It appears some companies out there are making new stuff to make old stuff work on new computers. :) Its gonna be a while before I get a chance to play with this hard drive as I am swamped with other projects.
