G+_Keith Freeman
Is it possible to build a power header that will allow 2 motherboards to use 1 psu?
G+_Danny Autrey
Yes all you need to do is put a tap on the header. The PSU might not hold up to 2 mother boards at the same time. Why would you need just the 1 PSU for 2 mother boards?
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Yes... but for Nerd's sake, PLEASE don't do it... See the last episode of Know How for the trick to trigger the ATX power supply (short pins 14&15) - That will turn on the PS even without input from the MB. Then you can solder parallel ATX PS connectors from the primary connector to each motherboard. Possible... but all sorts of REALLY BAD things could happen, so please don't do it. G+_John Mink
Don't do it Keith Freeman! If you're lucky, your neither computer will boot, if you're unlucky..they will, and things will work fine. Until you start getting segfaults because a HDD is (or, even worse, you had bad writes & you managed to corrupt your data!) or the CPUs isn't getting enough power and things just go wonky! And better yet, this can happen even if it's enough power, because your PSU can't deliver it's full power in any configuration, it's limited by the Max Amperage on each line.... so, just no! G+_Keith Freeman
Thanks for the info. I have a freenas box and was looking to build a proxmox box and was thinking of building a case to house 2 motherboards in 1 and was checking the ability to share a 800w psu to save space. Appreciate the warning so back to drawing board to fit the second psu in.
