G+_Martin Tatlock
I've been watching Steve Gibson (Security Now) on TWiT for a few years and I realise I don't understand some of the basics. How about a Know-How that teaches the basics of Cryptography? You could do a two parter with Steve on the show (like you did with Scott Wilkinson). Part 1 - the basics; part 2 - an introduction to his new secure authentication "SQRL".
G+_Elizabeth Whitmire
That would be fascinating.
G+_Göran Lilja
I would love this! Maybe you should wait until SQRL is completely documented, though.
G+_Elizabeth Whitmire
Why is because iyaz akhtar and Steve Gibson would give it their own flavor and make it entertaining.
G+_Martin Tatlock
Jeremy Petzold - I'm sure you are right but I'm a relative newbie and I like the style of how I think the Know How guys would do it - in fact just as Elizabeth Whitmire says! G+_Aaron Eiche
I think this topic doesn't quite fit in the realm of what KH is. KH teaches you how to do something, for instance how to use PGP to encrypt mail. Security Basics and Cryptography are a bit too ambiguous to cover in a show. Might I recommend the following titles to "describe a velocity as well as a vector: - How to secure your router - How to encrypt your HD (already done IIRC) - How to use SQRL (this would be a short show) - How to protect yourself against electronic surveillance. Beyond that, talking about SQRL would get pretty deep into programming. From an end-user standpoint, it's extremely simple. From the implementation standpoint, it's not in the realm of KH (IMO)
G+_Martin Tatlock
Thanks for your thoughts Aaron Eiche but I disagree with you. Sorry ! My point was cryptography, not security generally. The Know How setup - ideally with iyaz akhtar and Steve Gibson, doing a short ( not comprehensive, obviously) intro to the topic on part 1, followed by more detail (perhaps SQRL) in part 2 seemed a goer to me. Know How doesn't just have to be about fixing / configuring hardware/software, surely it can be about explaining some key technical concepts too? I'm probably hopelessly wrong, but I did like the idea ...
