G+_T Nohands
Can we please have a show on cluster computers shared CPU like a Beowulf cluster and building routers from pc components?
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
No. Grendel was a friend of mine. Beowulf can go screw... //Wonders how many young'ns will be rushing off to Wikipedia//
G+_Scot McSweeney-Roberts
Do people still bother with Beowulf clusters? I thought that pretty much died with the cloud - why bother networking all that hardware together when you can just spin up all the instances you need on AWS or Google? G+_Ben Reese
And while we're on the subject... I think Know How should build a 50 Cal AR-15 that takes the Beowulf round. It would be twice as much fun as building quadcopters and it's an easy platform to build on later - like a home-built PC or a quadcopter.
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Sigh Ben Reese ... that's why we can't have nice things. :)
G+_Ben Reese
And I think cluster computing is still pretty popular. The company I work for has many virtual servers in VMWare. If I understand the tech correctly, the virtual server can live on top of multiple hosts and might even be able to migrate from one to another without shutting down... I could be wrong on that though. Can Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ? or others shed some light on how that works in an enterprise?
G+_Timothy Hamlett
Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ?, well at least I got the reference :). Joking aside, this is a cool idea.
G+_T Nohands
clusters are starting a comeback for the insane home automation and custom built routers can be an affordable option to handle the massive bandwidth of such setups as someone without the use of his hands a massive network that uses the internet of things and IFTTT interaction would give me far more manipulation over my environment which is a huge up factor in my quality of life most consumer and even enterprise router can't handle such an interactive network, I find even the newest models fudge what they can handle with just the automation I've already installed in my room over 250 network devices my rear end I now need to jump up to 10gb internal bandwidth and switch panels and so on before I can do anymore like the rest of the property, so how about a show about building shared cpu clusters and routers that while still pricy but is far better and made especially for intranet heavy communications so how about it Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ could we explore the idea and for you we can leave Beowulf out of it if Grendel's death bothers you still.
G+_David Shadoan
I would definitely like to see a PFSense project.
