G+_Bryce Hamblin
Hey Iyaz and Leo, Always like the show and can see all the inovation you bring to the program. I have a setup I use here and wonder if you can refine it. How about linking your Xbox to TV. I am a cable cutter and I use my computer as a DVR and it sends the signal to my Xbox through windows media center. I also would like to know better ways then this especially if there is a way to take the computer out of the picture but still have the functionality of Windows Media Center and DVR or something like it. Let me know what you have. Thanks and always like your shows.
G+_Tony Schalk
I wouldn't mind seeing Iyaz address this as well, but here's what I know. I'm also a cord cutter (using an HTPC and XBox as a WMC extender) and I don't think there is any good solution for a DVR without an HTPC. There are some standalone units I think, but I haven't heard much good about them, and most if not all charge for guide data (which WMC does not). An XBox alone can't be a DVR in any conventional sense, although with Netflix, Hulu+, etc it can kind of act like one.
G+_Bryce Hamblin
Yea right now I have a main computer doing all these function. It is not as much of a HTPC as it is a gaming PC with the added HTPC in it. I have the computer go to sleep mode when not in use and have a conserving power supply so when the PC sleeps, the other devices (monitor, speakers, etc) shuts off. I like the setup right now but would like to save some money with the power consumption that this computer still requires.
G+_Dan Phillips
Check out XBMC. This is an open source project that started on XBox1 and is not an outstanding HTPC media center. They've just added DVR support which is pretty nice. As far as power, get something like the AD10 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856173030 Not only does it barely use any power, it's very quiet. G+_Bryce Hamblin
So would I have to get the Silicondust HDHomeRun to be able to install OTA TV? or is there something I am missing?
