G+_Ian Treleaven
My home router's DNS service is flaky. It's an Actiontec 1200. I can specify which DNSes to advertise from the router. Is there any reason to include the router in the list of DNSes? I moved it's 192.168.1.254 entry to the secondary DNS spot, using my ISP's DNS as the primary. Steve Gibson's DNS Bench says that's the wrong way round for performance but I want to make sure I get reliable Internet rather than flaky internet. Any advice? As a general show question, what's the best way to set up a home router's DNS settings? Are things like IPTV a factor? How about DNS services inside home routers? G+_Hazey Wolf
You might try using either Google DNS or OpenDNS: http://www.howtogeek.com/164981/how-to-switch-to-opendns-or-google-dns-to-speed-up-web-browsing/ In general, sites or services like IPTV shouldn't pose a problem but some may be blocked & require either a proxy or vpn when one is using a free public dns service. You might consider a host file manager or editing your host file to include name resolution for the most important or frequently visited ip addresses. I've used OpenDNS for years & frequently recommend it to parents as it can be easily configured to block certain sites or utilize provided blacklists & includes optional logging features. G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Bypass your ISP's DNS altogether. Use 8.8.8.8 (Google's DNS) or 208.67.220.220 (OpenDNS) Also.. take a look at episode 81 of "Know How" for the full skinny on DNS. :)
G+_Joe Phelps
Namebench, a Google side-project, is great for choosing the fastest DNS server for you: https://code.google.com/p/namebench/

G+_Timothy Hamlett
I also recommend Google DNS ( I have had problems with OpenDNS in the past)
