G+_Sam Zick
I recently got a 2012 Nexus 7, and am really missing my chrome adblock extension from the desktop version of the browser; this made me start thinking and have 2 possible show ideas: 1. How to block adverts on android 2. How to block adverts on an entire network
G+_Joshua Wilkins
Open source app Adaway from the F-droid repository will do the first. I think tomato or DD-WRT firmwares for routers can do the second.
G+_Steve C
Play store reviews say Adaway adds more ads when you install it! It uses the hosts file and Adblock uses that too but requires Root access. However you can just modify the file yourself: http://www.thriveforums.org/forum/toshiba-thrive-faq-guides/3177-tips-how-block-ads-system-wide-using-hosts-file.html
G+_Nate Mandle
I use AdFree on my rooted Nexus 7 and it works great. I also use Adaway on my phone and don't get any ads whatsoever. Whoever is saying it puts more ads on the phone doesn't know how to use it.
G+_Joshua Wilkins
steve c I am not sure what is on the Play Store, but AdAway was removed from the market several months back during a Google campaign against ad blocking apps. The app was put in the F-droid market. Also, it is open source, so anyone can see how the app works and verify if it is "adding" adds when installed. (I think you cannot believe all the reviews you read in the Play Store comments)
