G+_David Herron
FYI re: Google Voice SMS in Hangouts: I never saw the blue dialogue box that we've seen in screenshots but just happened to check my settings and it was there. I've opted in but so far there appears to be a significant delay with the test messages I've sent to a few people.
G+_Joseph Cappellino
Still not enabled for me.
G+_Redz Rojas
This is location based right? I mean we never had Google voice here in the Philippines so we'll never get this?
G+_Corey Fields
Sorry Redz Rojas, thanks for the reminder to be sensitive to our international community. I only know what's happening in the U.S.
G+_Joseph Cappellino
Okay. It was just enabled, but it's a little wonky. It's very difficult to chasms from an existing Hangout to an SMS via Google Voice. Additionally, there is at least one Hangout that I cannot change over. I wanted to test it with that person, but it just won't go. I'm sure it will be ironed out soon.
G+_Paul Werner
Joseph Cappellino the only way I found that works 100% if the time to switch a hangout or carrier SMS you already started to a GV SMS is to type the person's number into the hangouts extension on the PC (or if you're only on mobile then the desktop version of gmail in chrome though it's hard to select things since zooming in throws things off) & select start SMS. That'll switch your convo on the hangouts app to being sent by Google Voice?
G+_Michael Abernathy
Not sure if you've tried this or not but I just tested this: https://plus.google.com/111299035979480812452/posts/Q22yFi7oHWZ Picture message from GV# to GV# worked for me. But not from friends regular # to my GV#. But he got a link from my GV# to his regular #. He does NOT use Hangouts app though. Maybe if he did it would work. G+_Paul Werner
Michael Abernathy yeah I saw this too. I'm assuming your friend isn't on TMo or Sprint so you wouldn't see his MMS from his carrier #
G+_Michael Abernathy
IT was worth a shot. Like I said...He got my message with a link and could see the picture I attached. And yes, he is also on AT&T Cricket like us.
G+_Paul Werner
I actually found one more way to switch to a GV Hangout. If you go on a Wi-Fi only tablet in Hangouts and start the SMS conversation it'll switch it for you like the desktop version I mentioned above
G+_Paul Werner
OK so because because of Android App Arena 13 I found out another way to change over a chat from carrier number to Google Voice number. In the settings > SMS > Send SMS From you can tell it to send all messages from GV. This'll also switch already opened chats. Just figured I'd share this for you all that want to switch a conversation from the phone
