G+_Eddie Foy
The one item I am always concerned with is you can't test the SWR of the antennas. This isn't an issue with receive, but on xmit, is matters, and can destroy the RF amp if too much RF is reflected back into the amp. As a HAM, I make my own dipoles & yaggis (and have the antenna analyzer to test) But using just math to cut to length, its never the theoretical length in real world applications. Anything over a 1.8:1 SWR and I am concerned and will not xmit. (I did get a 3GHz spec analyzer with tracking generator to develop GPS/Cell/WiFi antennas. Not the cheap way to do things, but it is verfied.)
