G+_Dan Man
Hi all, I am new to forum but think it's great. I want to build a discrete cctv system to monitor my car for when it's parked, as there is someone vandalising All commercial dashcams will drain the main car battery so can anyone tell me how to power an 12v sd dvr and cameras. This could be an interesting project for KH , could be monitored over wifi. Basically I want to build a cheap portable cctv system.
G+_Jason Hammond
I would also be interested in this. I was just browsing smart WiFi cams at best buy. I had someone rummaging through my car last night. I would want something mountable to my house to watch my car in the drive way
G+_Juscelino Acevedo
Does anyone know how to subscribe to posts without having to comment, like I just did? LOL. I am interested in knowing the answer to this question.
G+_Ben Reese
A typical dash cam probably won't support WiFi. The super cheap option would be one of the many IP cameras on Amazon/Ebay. (i.e. YI Home Camera Wireless IP... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016F3M7OM/) For perhaps a little more capability, a Pi Zero-W with attach Pi Cam would work too. There are lots of tutorials for both the cam and making it battery powered (a portable cell charger battery pack should work). amazon.com - Amazon.com: YI Home Camera Wireless IP Security Surveillance System (US Edition) White: Camera & Photo

G+_Juscelino Acevedo
Bill Michaels I like the smartphone idea. Are you (or anyone else) familiar with a motion detect type of app?
G+_Peter Hanse
I would check if your 12 volt accessory port shuts off with car if it does I would setup battery pack to charge off it well you drive and power camera system. Key is to keep main car battery separate so it does not drain down well car is off. Once you have a battery pack you can power camera system with it. Their is also some ways of putting second car battery in truck that uses isolator from main that you can use to power camera system. So many ways to do this. I would first define how long you want it to be powered, does it need outside data connection, how to keep hidden, how to keep video recorder from being taken.
