G+_Akos Redey
Hi All. Watching episode 380 and the previous Synology focused ones I was trying to set up Quick Connect on mine so that I can finally move off DropBox. My "problem" is that the DS box is sitting in an internal LAN that has no direct access to the Internet, but using a (Squid) web proxy to access the Internet. Installing apps, automatic updates and the like seem to work as expected but I haven't managed to connect to the NAS box from anywhere outside the LAN hosting the DS box. So my question is: is Quick Connect using a wb proxy to the Internet supported? If so, is there a howto doc/clip explaining it? Many thanks, Akos
G+_Travis Hershberger
You'll want to find out if Squid suports reverse proxy. I use an nginx server as a reverse proxy in lots of places, the only thing it doesn't support is Exchange.
G+_Akos Redey
Yeah, i use nginx (separate box) for reverse proxying, but the point in Quck Connect is that I don't need to punch an incoming hole on my firewall. BTW, I had problems with Nginx fronting Wordpress (with TLS) as well...
G+_Travis Hershberger
Akos Redey Will, with a reverse proxy, the TLS is done from the reverse proxy to the outside world. If you want TLS inside the private network you can, but it's a lot of work for questionable gain. As to not having to open ports, that only works if you leave UPnP turned on, which I never would personally.
G+_Akos Redey
I believe the whole point of Synology's Quick Connect that you don't need to punch a hole on your firewall/border router incoming for incoming traffic. In effect the QC service ran by Synology is the "rendezvous point", in effect a reverse proxy (and a TLS tunnel) back to the Disk Station for authorised clients/apps. The only question if it works over a "forward" proxy on your network, as the my DS is on an internal net (no routing's in place from there to the Internet).
