G+_John Downey
I need help. I have a raspi zero w I am using for home surveillance. When I check it in the morning, the bash connection is terminated and when i try I get the message "Connection to 192.168.1.28 port 22: Host is down" I can usually log back in after a few tries and pings. Does anyone know what the problem is.
G+_Volkan Paksoy
That indicates it got disconnected or powered off. Maybe you can write a small script to send "heartbeat" messages so that you'd know something is wrong when you stop receiving those. I guess a fast and simple solution would be a daily notification email.
G+_Chad Lawson
John Downey, I won't swear this it is, but I've had a similar problem with the OctiPi setup I have connected to my 3D printer. In my case, my current WiFi network isn't strong enough in the lab area and if I don't stay connected, it drops the WiFi on occasion. The 'heartbeat' idea that Volkan Paksoy suggested is what I'm doing to keep the door open as it were. It helps, but ultimately it's going to come down to improving my network in that area.
