G+_Church PhotoGuy
Synology NAS I was looking at purchasing the Synology DS215J (bare unit) but was wondering if anyone has heard if a new unit with with higher specs is coming out soon. Should I wait another month? Is it worth the wait? My needs are simple I am wanting to replace out my home nas4free unit with a unit that will allow backups from phones, remote copy files from family 3000 miles away and backup to the cloud. And finally have a 321 backup solution.
G+_Eddie Foy
There is always a new one in the works. I started with a DS413j. I run too much on it, and it can get bogged down. In process of moving services over to a RS815+ They have cloud sync for typical cloud services. They do MUCH more then just NAS, you may want more 'oomph' Many many apps. G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
The great thing about Synology is that DSM works across their entire line. Buy the 215... you'll love it... and get a bigger/faster one in the future as well. :)
G+_Lennard Harris
It's my understanding that the last two digits in the product name ie ds215j (15) is the the year it was released for, so 2015. The previous product was the ds213j I just purchased the ds1815 with the same concerns but based on the 15 it could be a while before updating these units. G+_Eddie Foy
I chose the RS815+ because it will run Docker. Only a few models will.
G+_Church PhotoGuy
This is all very true and padre you are correct I can always upgrade to a newer one later and use this one as a backup at an other location. One thing I am looking for is to provide a place for my sons Minecraft world, from what I read this unit should do the trick for a hand number of players.
