G+_George Somers
My son and I are looking into beginner quads. We don't solder and we don't want to have to replace parts all the time. Preferably, we would like a decent camera. I know Fr. Robert has mentioned he choice for an off the shelf quad but there are so many KnowHow's talking about quads and I think it was a passing remark sometime in the last month on the show? Does anyone know which one he recommends? Does anyone else have a recommendation. Cost needs to be <$80. Thanks!
G+_Phorest Sherwood
I love my Syma x5c. Bought one for my son as well. Fun and forgiving. I have the bug now and are building more. But it is such a great way to learn. I bought a second one with no controllers that is used for spare parts.
G+_George Somers
(Using my other account) How's the video quality?
G+_Ben Reese
The only off the shelf copter I remember him mentioning is the Syma X5 (X5C has a camera). I've got the Hubsan X4 with an integrated camera. Both of these are between $50 and $60. I don't know for sure, but would assume that a larger copter will generally give a more steady shot than a smaller.
G+_Phorest Sherwood
The video quality is Ok only. There is a good amount of jelloing. I think a little effort in isolating the camera might help. But it is still a $60 system.
G+_Wayne Black
Check out the fellow on the Quadcopter 101 YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC90A4JdsSoFm1Okfu0DHTuQ He reviews a ton of the lower priced quads and has video examples of the ones with cameras. Just keep in mind that below $100, the video won't be that great
G+_The Grimm Perspective -
As a trainer, do you really feel as though you need a camera? I've only been playing with a couple of smaller quads myself for the past couple of months. So far I've tried both the Syma X11 and Husban X4. The Husban H107C has a camera but I haven't even tried it yet. The two are very similar in design yet the Husban is nearly twice as heavy. Lot's of parts out there for the Husban model and both on Amazon. As much as I liked starting out with the Syma X11, obtaining a second either for parts (almost cheaper this way when under $30) or for my son, has been an issue from Amazon. A couple of the Prime retailers have tried selling me opened items. Each with their own issues and having to be returned. Hence the reason I purchased the Husban. As much as I enjoy it, runs times seems to be less with the added weight.
